About
Presented with RBC Royal Bank, the STEPS Initiative launched the I heART Main Street Art Challenge. In only two weeks, over 20 BIAs submitted requests for free coaching to develop their activations, artist introductions, fee subsidies, promotional support and a chance to win prizes to scale their ideas over the pandemic recovery period.
The 42 activations currently underway were brought to life in collaboration with 25 local Toronto area creatives; 13 of whom self-identify as emerging or BIPOC (Black, Indigenous or People of Colour) artists who have been impacted by a loss of income over the COVID-19 pandemic.
The resulting activations are as diverse as the communities hosting them. Using our map as a guide, community members can visit the different sites animating the main streets across Toronto and the Peel Region. Through the challenge activations, participants will discover new places, new favourite artists and artwork, and engage in some art-filled, socially distanced fun, while supporting their local businesses!
Don’t miss your chance to catch these installations! Visit our activation map and share images using #mainstreetartchallenge on social media.
