First Encounter is an instrument petting zoo: a free, drop-in event that invites children and families to explore orchestral instruments hands-on. Spark curiosity and passion for music in an inclusive, welcoming space with the Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra, including some live demonstration. Come when you are ready, try out some instruments, and stay for as long as you like, this is the perfect place for young curious minds this Culture Days!

Established in 1971, the Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra's mission is to inspire a journey of self-discovery and belonging through exceptional youth orchestra training program. Known and loved as one of BC's largest and most dynamic youth orchestra, the RDYO has nearly 200 young musicians from 6 to 18 years old. In addition to weekly rehearsals and educational workshops, the RDYO regularly offer public concerts and outreach to share the joy of music-making and build community through the power of music.
