About
Listen To Dis’ VOICE is an open door community program with a focus on body, breath, and voice work. The program has been operating for 18 years, under the facilitation of Traci Foster, and we are excited to expand its reach through Saskatchewan Culture Days.
This workshop will explore and inspire curiosity and creativity. Through playful vocal exploration, participants will have the opportunity to challenge any perceived limitations they may have around their voice and discover ways to open up their expressive capabilities - all in a welcoming and supportive environment. Reveal the potent power and possibilities of your voice!
This will be the third of three sessions over the course of the Saskatchewan Culture Days window, each taught by a different artist with expertise in developing and using one's voice and using the voice to self advocate and creatively express. It will be facilitated by Shannon Holmes.
Shannon Holmes is a theatre artist, academic and coach whose work centers on voice. She holds a PhD in Drama and Theatre Arts from the University of Birmingham UK where her research centered on autoethnographic performance practices to examine the connections between the lived body and vocal expression. She has taught, presented her research and performed across North America, the UK and Europe. Her students have gone on to Broadway, London’s West End, appeared in North American Tours and graced the major stages across Canada. Shannon is currently an Associate Professor in the Theatre Department at the University of Regina.
Any required art materials will be provided to participants. Participants can choose to use their devices (phone, tablet) if it is more accessible for them. For any additional access needs or accommodations, please reach out to [email protected].
