About

Visiting the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum offers a charming and informative dive into the history of this picturesque town. Located in the heart of the historic district, the museum is housed in a beautiful

19th century high school and the first community Museum building in Ontario. The collection spans several centuries, offering insights into the region's development from early Indigenous contact through to the present.

Upon entering, you'll be greeted by exhibits that showcase the area's involvement in the War of 1812, as well as its role in the development of Canada. Displays feature artefacts and personal stories that paint a vivid picture of Niagara-on-the-Lake's past. One of the highlights is the War of 1812 collection which includes Major General Brock’s hat and several British uniforms!

There are often rotating exhibits that focus on specific themes, such as the town's rich agricultural legacy, local art, theatre and more. The Museum offers a cozy, intimate atmosphere where you can engage with the exhibits and gain a deep appreciation for the town’s unique place in Canadian history.

Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply exploring the area, a visit to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum is a great way to connect with the past while enjoying the charm of this scenic, historic town.

Typically offered at a cost, you can enjoy free admission from October 2nd to 4th as part of Ontario Culture Days.
