About

John McGarity

Cea Evanescentă (The Evanescent)” is a short (6:28 loop) vignette, presented in video installation form that comes from a developing series titled "The Tragedies of Vance Tooey".

This work begins to tell the story of Vance, a troubled and mysterious man whose tenuous grip on sanity seems to be fueled by a few experiences from his past. This part of his narrative looks at the sense of deep emptiness created by the unexpected loss of his only love, known only to the viewer as "Cea Evanescentă". The young woman presented in the piece is rendered as a distant and faint apparition within his ever-eroding memory. Initially created in June 2023 in Iasi, Romania, the project is an ongoing effort that is now in early development for a short film in a more traditional cinematic format.
