About

As part of "Culture Days", families are invited to participate in a fun and spontaneous workshop in anticipation of the grand unveiling of "Grace Note"—a monumental sculpture that will be installed in the lobby of the MacLaren Art Centre. Created by regional artists Lyn Carter and Carl Taçon, this work can be seen as a grandiose gestural line, activating the space with vibrant energy, emotion, and colour.

What kind of line expresses who YOU are? Join Education Officer Christina Mancuso and MacLaren Instructor Katherine Fievet to create your own artwork that will be a part of a community exhibition in the MacLaren’s Rotary Education Centre, "All in Line", on October 3 to the 21! Make your mark as we celebrate this new artwork at the Gallery!

MacLaren Art Centre

The MacLaren Art Centre is the regional public art gallery serving the residents of Barrie, Simcoe County and surrounding area. Our mission is to engage and enrich the immediate and larger community by providing innovative and relevant contemporary visual arts programming. We believe in the transformative power of the arts and their capacity to enrich understanding, empathy and creativity. As an art museum, the MacLaren is engaged with the collection, conservation, presentation, documentation, promotion and appreciation of contemporary Canadian visual art for the benefit, enrichment and enjoyment of public audiences.

The Gallery has a Permanent Collection of artworks held in trust for the public and presents a year-round program of innovative exhibitions, unique experiential art education activities and special events. Education provides the unifying link that activates our collections and exhibitions, and fosters an understanding and appreciation of the visual arts.
