About
Individuals who work in; Military, First Responder and Hospital Practitioner services, often see and respond to unique events or deployments. Through both the stress and the enjoyment of the job, people need creative outlets.
The Steel Spirit Incorporated has become a platform that has continued to grow within Barrie City Hall since 2017. We have been honoured to share the stories and the talents of individuals within the community who work in the services. The Steel Spirit galleries provide an artistic window for the public to connect communities. There are countless locals who have friends or family members in; Policing, Paramedics, Fire, Military and Hospital services.
Over the last 7 years, we have had 10 galleries across Canada. The galleries have been in: Barrie (six galleries), Collingwood, Base Borden, Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia and St. Albert Alberta. We have also had a large online presence since 2020 with online galleries that have included artists from the services across Canada.
Art has been one of the most compelling outlets for individuals in the services, encompassing a wide variety of mediums within which artists can explore their talents. In the exhibit, each artist’s contribution is displayed, accompanied by a one page biography which highlights their experiences in the services as well as the art itself.
These exhibits endeavor to show the people behind the uniforms and honour the steel spirit of each artist.
