About

The Amazing Cochrane Culture Hunt

Sunday September 27th, 2020 1pm – 5pm

An Amazing Race style scavenger hunt where the goal is to learn about your neighbours' culture instead of beating the clock.

Participants sign-up online as a family cohort and use their own vehicle to join in the fun. Please note there will be limited time slots.

"Culture stops" representing unique cultures will be set up throughout Cochrane. Families will follow clues to locate each stop, where upon arrival they will engage in a short activity to learn about the culture represented.

Each location will have a Cochrane Immigrant Services Volunteer Ambassador on site to ensure attendees practice social distancing and that COVID-19 recommendations are followed. The Ambassador will also hand out the next clue once attendees have completed the activity.

Upon completion of the route teams will return to the starting location to have their Amazing Culture Hunt Passports checked and to be entered into a draw to win a prize.

Eventbrite registration will be available on July 15th. Email [email protected] should you have any questions or would like a link.

Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee

Our Vision:

All immigrants and newcomers are welcomed, engaged and included in all aspects of community life in Cochrane and area. They have access to and knowledge of the services they need in order to pursue their goals.

About Us:

The Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee (CISC) supports the inclusion of newcomers to Canada and our community, as well as a celebration of heritage for all Albertans, newly arrived or settled here for generations. Our CISC is excited about celebrating our multicultural community all year long!

Our CISC is comprised of members of many service providing agencies including Rocky View Immigrant Services (RVIS), Helping Hands Society of Cochrane & Area, local faith communities, educational institutions, and local volunteers. Throughout the year we host events that help us fulfill our mission of inclusion. Examples of these events are: translated tours of Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, our biannual Newcomer Welcome Night, our annual Citizenship Ceremony, and our Christmas Day Celebration, the Jingle and Mingle. In the past, we have held an annual Community Picnic in August with cultural performances and interactive learning opportunities as well a one day CultureFest event to highlight multicultural performances in conjunction with Alberta Culture Days.

As a group we are committed to helping newcomers get connected to local resources and to helping them feel like they belong and are welcomed into Cochrane. We are always accepting new members and volunteers. Please contact us, if you are interested. We can be reached by email at [email protected]
