About
Join the Writers' Community of York Region for an inspiring and informative seminar with Cali Platek of Simon and Schuster, as she shares insider tips on how to turn your personal story into a published book. Whether you’re just beginning to write or ready to take the next step toward publishing, this is your chance to learn what it takes to get your story in the hands of readers. Everyone has a story to tell – What’s yours?
The event will also include time for networking with fellow writers, exchanging ideas, and building your creative community. Refreshments will be served. Don’t miss this opportunity to bring your story to life! All are welcome.
The Writers’ Community of York Region (WCYR) encourages, inspires, celebrates, and supports writers of all genres at all stages of development.
We are a collective of local authors, poets, and industry professionals who strive to build a supportive and encouraging framework for writers and their craft. The WCYR provides a platform for education, inspiration, connection, and celebration. We aim to be the hub and representing body for literary endeavours in York Region.

Town of Newmarket
The Arts, Culture & Tourism Commission envision Newmarket as a town…
• in which arts and culture are not just part of a storied past, but at the heart of our
contemporary identity—expressing who we have been, who we are, and who we hope
to be.
• that demonstrates in concrete ways how it values artists: enabling them to create and
showcase their best and most innovative work and receive the support they need to
survive and flourish here.
• that celebrates diversity in all forms by inspiring and empowering all residents to
express their individual creativity and cultural identities.
• which arts and culture are woven into the very fabric of living, where residents, workers,
students and visitors—participate and take pride in the vibrant cultural life to be found
in every corner of the town.
• that fosters creative thinking as a way of solving our problems.
• that includes permanent art installations whenever new construction is planned
wherever people may gather.
