UNTOLD HISTORIES:

THE LEGACY OF THE CHINESE COMMUNITY ON DEER LAKE

Thursday October 8, 6-7pm

In partnership with Burnaby Art Gallery

The site of the Burnaby Art Gallery and surrounding Century Garden are rich with stories of early settlers. Through the discovery of a ‘Pak Chu’ gaming piece, this presentation highlights the unseen presence of a Chinese community that is equally profound in its connection to this historic place.

Presenter: Nathan Lee, Lead Designer and co-founder of Contexture Design

Burnaby Village Museum

We are a place Where History Comes to Life – stroll down the streets of our 1920s tram-stop community. Period costumed townsfolk welcome visitors and give demonstrations in the homes, businesses and shops. Popular stops include a chat with the blacksmith, a demonstration in the print shop and a visit with the clerk at the General store. The restored Interurban #1223 is a must see and a whirl on the historic 1912 CW Parker Carousel is a thrill. Amenities include picnic tables, a gift shop and an ice-cream parlour offering meals and snacks.
