THE FECUNDITY OF FOOD & FAMILY: A NATURAL NICHE FOR CHINESE CANADIANS IN BURNABY

Tuesday October 20, 7-8pm

In partnership with UBC Initiative for Student Teaching and Research in Chinese Canadian Studies

Learn from four UBC students about their research on Chinese Canadian involvement in food and farming in early Burnaby. Hear how their research has deepened our knowledge of Burnaby’s Chinese Canadians, and what this exciting experience has meant to them as budding researchers.

Presenters: UBC students and graduates of ACAM 390A and HIST 482: The Heritage of Chinese Migration

Burnaby Village Museum

We are a place Where History Comes to Life – stroll down the streets of our 1920s tram-stop community. Period costumed townsfolk welcome visitors and give demonstrations in the homes, businesses and shops. Popular stops include a chat with the blacksmith, a demonstration in the print shop and a visit with the clerk at the General store. The restored Interurban #1223 is a must see and a whirl on the historic 1912 CW Parker Carousel is a thrill. Amenities include picnic tables, a gift shop and an ice-cream parlour offering meals and snacks.
