About

Have you ever wondered what goes through the mind of brass players as they practice, perform, improvise, and run their music business? We want to welcome music enthusiasts and brass players of any skill level to an interactive masterclass with CJO’s Jay Michalak on trumpet and Michael Callander on trombone. They will perform, answer questions from the public and offer technique advice and other recommendations to improve the musicianship of those in the room. Interactive masterclass, bring your instrument if you'd like!

Jay Michalak is one of Canada’s leading trumpeters. Jay is a regular performer with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Calgary Jazz Orchestra and the Johnny Summers Little Big Band.

Michael Callander plays with many jazz groups including Jim Hutchison Jazz Works. He has performed with a wide range of artists. His recording portfolio includes Humber College’s Midnight Sun album in 2017 on which he is featured as a soloist.
