About

Sensory Spotlight is a welcoming, community‑focused celebration hosted by Sensity as part of Ontario Culture Days.

This open‑house style event invites the general public, neighboring community members, community partners, social service agencies, and municipal leaders to explore Sensity’s Resource Centre and learn more about our work alongside the deafblind community. Guided tours will be offered throughout the afternoon, including access to our Snoezelen Room and Music Room, showcasing sensory‑based supports, inclusive spaces, and accessibility‑focused design.

Sensory Spotlight will feature two artist‑centered experiences. Visitors can explore Artisans on Main, Sensity’s on‑site marketplace located within the Resource Centre, where individuals who are deafblind sell their artwork, prepare coffee, and gain meaningful employment experience in a supportive, real‑world setting. In addition, the event will host a special artist market, bringing together artists who are deafblind from across the province to showcase and sell their work. All purchases directly support the artists and promote creative expression, economic inclusion, and visibility.

Food will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting Sensity’s programs and services. The event will also include a Job Fair, with an HR specialist on site to answer questions and accept resumes, as well as hands‑on experiences, including the opportunity to try simulation goggles.

Sensory Spotlight is designed to raise awareness of the deafblind community while celebrating creativity, accessibility, and inclusion. The event creates space for learning, connection, and community engagement, and we look forward to welcoming visitors of all ages to experience Sensity’s work firsthand.

Organizer

Sensity Deafblind and Sensory Support Network of Canada

Sensity is a non‑profit organization dedicated to empowering people who are deafblind to live self‑directed lives through individualized supports, inclusive programming, and meaningful community engagement. We operate a Resource Centre and Sensory Garden that serve as welcoming, accessible spaces for learning, creativity, and connection between the deafblind community and the broader public.

Sensity has demonstrated strong experience in planning and delivering successful public‑facing cultural events, including Sensory Spotlight, which was hosted last year with strong community participation and positive feedback. The event was well received for its inclusive design, engaging activities, and welcoming atmosphere, and we are excited to build on this success as part of Ontario Culture Days.

In addition, Sensity operates Artisans on Main, a small storefront located within our Resource Centre. The space showcases artwork created by individuals who are deafblind and provides opportunities for skill development and paid work, including customer service and café‑based roles. Artisans on Main is both a cultural and economic initiative that highlights creativity, lived experience, and leadership in the deafblind community.

Our organization has a strong track record of delivering accessible community events that combine open houses, art showcases, guided tours, and interactive experiences. Our experienced, cross‑departmental team works collaboratively to ensure events are well‑coordinated, inclusive, and impactful.

Through initiatives like Sensory Spotlight and Artisans on Main, Sensity has demonstrated its ability to deliver cultural projects that elevate underrepresented voices, foster understanding, and strengthen community connections. This experience positions us well to successfully deliver the proposed project.
