Hildur describes herself as a multi-disciplinary artist with a printmaker’s eye. She explores themes of our relationship to nature at the intersection of the climate crisis, natural phenomena, folklore/mythology, and the intangible powers of nature. Born and raised in Iceland, Jónasson grew up close to nature in a surreal landscape of volcanoes, geysers and glaciers. Jónasson’s Nordic culture of folklore and mythology is deeply rooted in nature and has a strong influence on her art. Surreal artworks mingle with mythology, acting as a storyteller of the mysteries of the natural world and wild Icelandic landscapes.

'Mother Tongue' opens on Friday, September 26 at 7pm. Light refreshments will be served and the artist will be in attendance.

Located in a stunning 1902 heritage building in the heart of the historic downtown district, Nelsons only public museum and archives offers a friendly atmosphere in an exciting state-of-the-art facility. The Nelson Museum is one of only two organizations in Canada to house a permanent installation of Jaime Black’s The REDress Project, and also features one of the few Cold War Bunkers open to the public.

Two art galleries offer 2000 sq/ft of stimulating content featuring award-winning exhibitions and renowned artists from across the country. There is also a delightful Gift Shop featuring over 120 local artists.
