About

Dyer Memorial is an impressive monument built by Detroit Lawyer Clifton G. Dyer in memory of his wife Betsy Browne Dyer, and overlooking the Big East River near Williamsport road. This imposing site is located about 11 kilometres Northeast of Huntsville, via 118 North and Williamsport Road.

The Dyers who loved the outdoors had spent their honeymoon in 1916 on a canoeing trip to Algonquin Park. On their twentieth anniversary in 1936 they returned to Muskoka and tented on the East River near the site of the present memorial. Later in 1940 they built a permanent cottage on the riverbank and visited the area each summer and after in the winter as well.

Mrs. Dyer died in 1956 and her ashes were placed in the Copper urn at the top of the memorial.

An attractive park area surrounds the site with rolling lawns, pools and streams. Flowerbeds and shrubs grace the base of the monument.
