About

Scarecrows' Book Invasion is the theme of this year's Meaford Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival. Scarecrows built at community workshops will have invaded Meaford in September. These literary scarecrows will be found throughout the town - at Station Hill and outside Meaford Hall celebrating literature! Other scarecrows designed by volunteers will grace the lamp posts and businesses along Scarecrow Alley (Hwy 26), the Harbour and other sites within the Municipality of Meaford. The invading scarecrows will delight visitors with their artful poses, their support of literature and their demonstration of community spirit which we know leads to community wellness - community culture at its best.

September to mid-October

• To PROMOTE a festival spirit by collaborating with other planners of Fall events

• To INCORPORATE a theme in all Scarecrow decorating

• To CELEBRATE the “Big Fall Weekend” – the weekend before Thanksgiving

• To ATTRACT shoppers to the business area of our community

• To SUPPORT tourism & economic development by ATTRACTING visitors to our community

• To PRESENT an event appealing to all ages

• To FOSTER volunteerism, community spirit and friendships

Planning starts in January. Scarecrow Building Workshops are held in May, June and August where volunteers create 250 to 300 scarecrows to invade the town.
