About
Bollywood Stories: Dance, Culture & Community is a free, beginner-friendly, 90-minute interactive dance workshop led by dance artist and choreographer Jiya Kaemra. Participants will learn foundational Bollywood dance movements, explore how emotion and storytelling are communicated through movement, and work together to learn a short choreography.
The workshop will include rhythm and coordination exercises, creative storytelling activities, and opportunities for personal expression. It will conclude with an optional community sharing and reflection in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
The program is open to youth, adults, seniors, and families, and no previous dance experience is required. Adaptable movement options will be available so participants can take part at their own comfort level.

This workshop will be led by Jiya Kaemra, a dedicated dance artist and choreographer with more than 15 years of experience in Bollywood, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Contemporary dance. As captain of her university’s competitive Bollywood dance team, she helped lead the team to first-place wins at a North American inter-university competition for two consecutive years. She has also performed as a dancer for Diljit Dosanjh at the Rogers Centre in Toronto and Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Jiya is passionate about making dance welcoming, accessible, and enjoyable for people of all ages and experience levels. Through her work, she aims to build confidence, encourage self-expression, and bring people together through movement and storytelling.
