About
Come Rock With Us!
The Richmond Gem and Mineral Society invite you to join us on Saturday, September 25, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as we share our Lapidary activities. First stop is the Culture Centre Plaza where you can view our boutique table. See examples of what we create with our rocks and silversmithing tools. Try your hand at creating a simple ring. Test your knowledge with the Rock Identification game. Have an urge to identify that rock you found? Bring it in and we will show you how to identify it.
Second stop is the hidden gem of Richmond…our lapidary studio on the top floor of the Cultural Centre. Watch as rough rock is cut into slabs, trimmed to preform cabochons (polished stones), and taken through the six stages of grinding and polishing to make finished cabochons. Observe pendants, rings, earrings, and chains being made in the silversmithing room. There is something to pique everyone’s interest.
COVID 19 protocols will be followed to ensure the safety of all participants. A maximum of 10 people can be in the lapidary studio at one time. Hand-sanitizer will be available. Masks will be mandatory.
On the plaza, participants will be asked to safe distance. Those choosing to make a ring or play rock game will be provided hand-sanitizer and after each activity all surfaces and materials will be cleaned.

RIchmond Gem and Mineral Society
The Richmond Gem and Mineral Society (RGMS) is a family oriented group that encourage the participation of all family members in its activities. Families enjoy rock hounding, the search for various types of rocks, minerals and gems. In our lapidary studio members work on a variety of disciples related to lapidary including polishing of rock, carving, silversmithing, lost wax casting and gem tree ornaments.
We have a monthly meeting that consists of a business meeting, social gathering and a program. The studio is open 5 times a week. Classes are taught and people can use all the studio equipment to produce artistic creations.
