About

As an immigrant, my experiences shape "The Light Within," an installation that explores the intricate layers of human interactions and cultural histories. This piece invites you to engage deeply with both individual and communal existence, emphasizing the importance of empathy.

Upon entering, you'll experience a mesmerizing interplay of light and reflections, encouraging pause, reflection, and connection. The reflective surfaces evoke curiosity, dynamically altering your movements to create a lively and responsive environment.

Accommodating 2-3 people at a time, the installation fosters meaningful interactions. Those inside can see faint silhouettes of movements outside, while observers can enjoy a visual dialogue through dynamic shadows and light. This blurring of boundaries highlights our interconnectedness.

By visiting "The Light Within," you not only engage with a visually stunning installation but also reflect on deeper societal themes that link us all. Whether you immerse yourself within its walls or observe from outside, you'll find yourself part of a larger narrative about introspection, connection, and shared humanity.

Organizer

Hamideh Behgar

I am Hamideh Behgar, a multidisciplinary visual artist from Iran, now residing in Winnipeg, Canada. My artistic vision delves into the depths of human emotions and experiences through the prism of creative freedom, playfulness, and organic forms. With a background in Graphic Design and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba, I strive to create works that invite viewers to engage their imaginations and connect deeply with diverse ideas.

My artistic journey began with symmetrical and geometrically formed sculptures inspired by the complexity of nature. Growing up in a society with rigid norms often made me feel constrained. However, my move to Canada opened up a world of creative freedom and expression. This transformative experience is central to my mandate as an artist: to celebrate creativity, liberation, and the endless possibilities of self-discovery and resilience.

Through my work, I aim to create art that liberates, inspires, and connects individuals, encouraging them to explore their own creativity and imagination. I cultivate environments where art is not merely observed but felt and experienced on a personal level. I believe that public art has the profound power to bring people together, create shared experiences, and inspire new perspectives. By embedding my sculptures within public spaces, I hope to foster a sense of community and shared creative expression.
