About
Youth aged 6 and up can join Emrys for a special beading workshop in honour of Truth and Reconciliation Day. Create a red dress a beadwork keychain in memory of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S). Emrys will guide participants through the beading process, sharing the cultural significance of the red dress and its connection to Truth and Reconciliation. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful art while reflecting on Indigenous history. All materials are provided.
Emrys Peacock is an Indigenous artist based in the Okanagan, specializing in beadwork. Born in 2007 in Ontario, they use their art to reconnect with their culture and raise awareness of Indigenous issues, drawing inspiration from their tribe’s distinctive style. As a Two-Spirit individual, their experiences with the 60’s Scoop and the residential school legacy deeply influence their work. Emrys has showcased their beadwork at events like Creative Chaos and Shoparama, as well as local stores, and was selected to be part of the Youth Artists in Residency program, Summer 2024, at VCAC.
