About
Kala Sutra: Threads of Indian Classical Arts
Presented by Vrunda Upadhyay, an award-winning South Asian dance and music artist, Kala Sutra is a movement-based community workshop that explores the expressive world of Indian classical arts. Rooted in the traditions of Bharatanatyam and Indian classical music, this free, interactive session invites participants of all backgrounds and abilities to discover the joy of movement, rhythm, and storytelling.
Drawing from over two decades of artistic practice, Vrunda guides participants through foundational gestures (mudras), rhythmic patterns (tala), and expressive movements (abhinaya) that form the core of Bharatanatyam. The workshop emphasizes connection—between body and sound, tradition and expression, and artist and community.
No prior experience is required just an open mind and a willingness to move. Kala Sutra is designed to encourage cultural appreciation, build body awareness, and inspire collective creativity in a welcoming space.
