About

Experience the strength and beauty of Filipino heritage and culture through a virtual performance of "The Dance of Lights | Pandanggo sa Ilaw".

Audiences will be captivated by the graceful twirling motions of candles used to simulate firefiles at dusk. This joyful and lively folk dance evolved from the Spanish folk dance Fandango and was adapted among Filipino communities during the colonial period. Traditionally, dancers would balance three candles: one on the head and on each hand.

The virtual performance will feature original choreography by Filipino Canadian ballerina Anya Lavina of the Canadian School of Ballet, original compositions by Philippine National Artist for Music, Lucrecia Kasilag, and vocal performances by the Philippine Madrigal Singers.

Link the the premiere will be live on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 2:00 pm PST on the Filipino Canadian Art Museum website.
