About
MEND: A Plastiscapes Event
Join MEND, a night of music, dance and gathering where Studio Rat’s Plastiscapes becomes a site of sound and sculpture, activated by some of Ottawa’s DJs.
An inflated structure overtakes the space, reaching up towards the sun. An altar of hope and a room to inhabit, Plastiscapes by Studio Rat explores the infinite dichotomies held within plastic that exist at odds with one another: the ancient and futuristic, mundane and magical, intimate and industrial, malleable and fixed. The artists forgo industrial forms of recycling as foraged plastics are pressed, fused, cut, and quilted, bringing disparate materials together into a coherent whole. When activated with air, plastic becomes a landscape for a speculative inquiry, exploring pasts, presents and futures of this storied material that overwhelms and presses down around us.
Open format event series focused on the promotion of Pan-African electronic music and culture. As a title, Plantains & Caviar represents the plurality of the music we aim to promote. Blending different cultures, sounds, and identities in one space free of isms & phobias. Afrobeat, Dancehall, Amapiano, House, Gqom, Alté, Afro-fusion, Miami Bass, Batida, Baille Funk, Ghetto Tech, UKG, Jungle +++

Plasticscapes is made possible thanks to the City of Ottawa through Ottawa Nightlife, the Province of Ontario, and the Ontario Arts Council. We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, and producing partners Congrego and St. Albans Church.

Ontario Culture Days
Ontario Culture Days is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to championing and supporting arts and culture across the province.
Each fall, we present the Ontario Culture Days festival, a province-wide celebration featuring free arts and cultural experiences in communities of all sizes. Working with artists, cultural organizations, municipalities and community partners, we help bring performances, exhibitions, workshops, tours and other participatory events to audiences throughout Ontario.
Beyond the festival, Ontario Culture Days supports the cultural sector through year-round programs, resources, partnerships and professional development. We connect people with the artists, stories and places that make Ontario’s communities vibrant and distinctive.
