About

This September, Winnipeggers will have the opportunity to take in the best contemporary visual art from across Manitoba. The Manitoba Rural & Northern Juried Art Show features 40 artists selected by juries in the Central, Northern, Parkland and Westman regions of Manitoba. Artworks cover a diverse range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media and textiles.

Artists include:

Teresa Burrows, an internationally recognized Thompson-based artist, brings “Our Lady of the Seal Hunt,” which she made in 2017 for the Canadian Craft Biennale. It is a portrait in mixed media of acclaimed throat singer, artist, activist and Order of Canada recipient Tanya Tagaq.

Natalie Rostad-Desjarlais, an award-winning stone artist and poet, brings “Cedar Ridge.” RostadDesjarlais’s work has been displayed internationally and purchased for collections belonging to Elton John, Jimmy Carter, Jane Fonda and Ted Turner, Shania Twain, David Suzuki and others.

Rosemarie Péloquin, a Ste. Rose-du-Lac artist who creates lifelike 3D busts using felt, brings “Sibling Rivalry.” Péloquin says of her work, “I sculpt portraits that represent character rather than physical likeness, fragile moments intended to tug at remembrances.”
