About
Celebrate Culture Days at the AGB – 50 Years of Art, Learning, and Community.
This fall, the Art Gallery of Burlington invites you to experience Gikinoo’amaatowin – This Is All Learning, a powerful exhibition and series of programs that honour Indigenous artistry, storytelling, and intergenerational knowledge.
From September 19 to October 12, 2025, join us for hands-on workshops, inspiring conversations, and immersive experiences as part of Burlington’s Culture Days celebrations—coinciding with our 50th anniversary.
Curated by Albany Sutherland, Gikinoo’amaatowin – This Is All Learning showcases the work of acclaimed Anishinaabe artists Jean Marshall and Nicole Richmond, whose beadwork, jingle dresses, and floral designs carry teachings from the land, community, and ancestral traditions.
These Pay-What-You-Can and free events invite you to learn directly from the artists, explore the cultural significance of their practices, and connect with the themes of healing, resilience, and shared creativity.
Program Highlights:
Anishinaabe Futurities Through Beadwork with Dr. Melissa Twance – Oct 2, 6:30–7:30 pm (Online) Discover how beadwork serves as a powerful form of Indigenous knowledge, care, and cultural continuity.
This online conversation between AGB’s Associate Curator Albany Sutherland with scholar and artist Dr. Melissa Twance will explore beadwork as a powerful site for Anishinaabe knowledge and decolonial practice. Shaped by the voices of eight Northern Ontario beadworkers, Dr. Twance’s research highlights how their work offers not only visual expression, but a generative practice of relational learning, cultural continuity, and Indigenous futurity. Together, they will discuss how creative practices like beading teach, resist, and reimagine worlds beyond settler systems. This conversation will connect to the themes of Gikinoo’amaatowin – This Is All Learning, an exhibition featuring Anishinaabe artists Jean Marshall and Nicole Richmond.
Whether you join us in person or online, you’ll be part of an inspiring exchange of ideas, stories, and traditions that continue to shape our shared cultural future.
Celebrate with us. Learn with us. Create with us.
