Main Gallery

"L’Empremier live at Beaubassin (1970)" is a video piece pastiche of Adrian Maben’s Live at Pompeii (1972, 1974). Embracing the backdrop of the summer of 1970, the film stars the fictitious Acadian singer-songwriter Joan Dularge (they/she) as they approach the tumultuous decade of the 1970s. Here, Joan and their musicians spend time in the studio creating their songs as well as sharing their thoughts on contemporary issues, their gazes cast ahead as they deal with ideas of Acadian identity or acadianness, transness, taxonomy and language.
