About

Join us for a curator's talk to learn more about Brock University's permanent art collection!

Friday, September 26, 2025, 12:00 pm (noon )- 1:00 pm.

Sponsored by the Brock University Library and hosted by the Visual Arts Gallery (MIW), 'Intentional Futures' is an exhibition that presents a carefully selected group of artworks from the Brock University Art Collection, many of which are being exhibited at the University for the first time. The exhibition poses important questions concerning visibility, absence, and institutional memory while the curatorial approach encourages deeper engagement with the collection’s evolving narrative and cultural significance. Prompts and questions placed throughout the exhibition are designed to foster dialogue and reflection, inviting viewers to actively contribute their insights in written form. These responses will help identify gaps in representation and perspectives that are missing from the collection. Looking forward, our intention is to carefully guide future acquisitions in ways that address these lapses in representation —ensuring that the Brock University Art Collection becomes a more inclusive, representative, and resonant collection for future generations.

Join curators Mandy Salter (Art Collections and Engagement Manager) and Sonya Marie de Lazzer (Visual Arts Gallery Coordinator, MIW) to learn more about the curatorial intentions of this special exhibition.

Please note that the talk will run approx. 40-45 minutes, with time remaining to enjoy light refreshments, exhibition viewing, mingling, and conversation.

This exhibition runs September 2 - October 11, 2025. A public reception is scheduled for September 11, from 5 - 7 pm. All welcome.
