About

Russell Mather, a Ts’msyen carver from Lax Kw’alaams on BC’s North Coast, talks about a project he is working on with students in Prince Rupert. As they carve a pole together, called the Truth and Reconciliation Pole, he teaches them about Ts’msyen culture and protocol in art and in life. This project is in partnership with Wap Sigatgyet, School District 52's Indigenous Education Department. District Principal of Indigenous Education Roberta Edzerza and Truth and Reconciliation Administrator Lori Burger also talk about the many levels of learning that this project is bringing to the children and the community.

Organizer

Prince Rupert Community Arts Council

The Prince Rupert Community Arts Council was founded in 1971 as a not-for-profit, membership-based organization dedicated to fostering arts and culture in the Prince Rupert region. The PRCAC is run by a volunteer board committed to enhancing the arts community in Prince Rupert. The PRCAC raises funds through membership fees, special events, corporate contributions, and generous financial assistance from the City of Prince Rupert and the BC Arts Council.

In addition to providing member assistant grants and scholarships on an annual basis, the Arts Council hosts a number of inspiring community events including the Kaien Island Craft Fair, Thursday Night at the Movies, and Creative Jam.
