About
Sparrow's Nest Makerspace ~ a community hub for connection and creativity ~ will invite it's Youth, Senior, Community Group members, locals and public visitors to participate in a Community Art Collaboration Installation.
Participants will have the opportunity to drop-in and make a "bird" that represents who they are in the world using repurposed found objects and recycled materials. Finished birds will be placed perched along a wire and/or specific tree at Bissell Park along the boardwalk for maximum accessibility and to highlight importance of art in public spaces and in the grounds of Elora Centre for the Arts. Messages may be written on the birds for visitors to read.
Purpose of the installation is to visually represent the importance, power and beauty of a "UNIFIED FLOCK of DIVERISTY".
It is hoped that community and visitors will see themselves represented and reflected in the growing diverse flocks and revisit them to welcome new birds.
Organizer
Sparrow's Nest Makerspace
Sparrow's Nest Makerspace is an inclusive social enterprise for connection and creativity that welcomes all ages and abilities. Our community nest is lined with a varied supply of repurposed/donated arts and crafts materials with tools to share and explore.
We recognize the need for shared collaborative making, quiet space for creative thinking and social time to connect and relax.
At least one nest facilitator is on-hand for support and guidance if needed.
We have three youth groups, one Caring Arts group, one social group for seniors, two Community Drop-in Art Making groups, two Community Music Drop-in Groups and share space with the Montessori School for tutoring and a bi-weekly session with Hospice Wellington Music Therapy Group.
We welcome donated/repurposed arts & crafts supplies, inspiring found objects, magazines and art books. Items we cannot use are shared with other community groups or donated to the local Groves Hospital New to You thrift store.
