Organizer

Toronto Bengali Drama Group

In 1979, Toronto Bengali Drama Group (TBDG) was formed by a group of passionate Bengali hobby artists, who were deeply interested in continuing their celebration of Bengali literature, drama and other cultural activities in their new adopted county. Their goal was also to enrich the younger generation to learn and continue enjoying Bengali culture. Today, the group engages people from the wider GTA both as artists and as audiences. During special celebrations, they invite both local and international artists.

Each year in April, in celebration of the Bengali New Year (Shubho Nobo Borsho), TBDG holds dramas presentations by children, youth and adults. TBDG also holds ‘Kabita O Ganer Ashor’ inviting local poets and songwriters to share their work. There are other events held during the year, to enjoy not only Bengali music, dance, drama and new artistic presentations, but also fusion cultural activities encompassing Canadian and Bengali cultures.

TBDG’s Art Exhibition is eagerly awaited every year and due to the pandemic, the virtual art exhibition has been a rewarding alternative. During the pandemic closure, a digital magazine was also published.

For over 40 years, TBDG has engaged the community in Bengali arts and culture, encouraging innovative and traditional art forms.
