Ann K. Chou - BC Culture Days Ambassador

Ann K Chou, a visual technologist-artist from Hong Kong, is known for her spontaneous brushwork in Chinese calligraphy ink and vibrant acrylics. She specializes in crafting lanterns and wearable puppets using a diverse range of naturally found and upcycled materials, including heritage bamboo. As a first-generation immigrant, a severe hard-of-hearing individual, and someone on the autism spectrum, Ann's personal journey deeply influences her art. She prioritizes the process of creation and strives to break down boundaries while celebrating diversity through her artwork. Ann seamlessly merges static arts with live performances and digital interaction, pushing the limits of her bamboo-based lantern building skills. Alongside her career in people-centered Health IT, she has honed her expertise in photography, digital production, and soft sculpture. Currently engaged in the ScreenDance residency, Ann focuses on creating accessible art for all disabilities. Her ultimate goal is to inspire others to reconsider system barriers, embrace diversity, and ensure inclusivity in the arts, fostering a welcoming and inclusive artistic community.
