About
Presented in celebration of Ontario Culture Days 2025
Join us at Trinity Square Video for a screening of Play It Loud! — How Toronto Got Soul, a documentary that follows beloved vocalist Jay Douglas and the communities that helped shape Toronto’s ska, rocksteady, reggae, soul, and signature “Toronto sound.” The film traces how artists, audiences, and venues connected across decades to build a musical legacy that continues to resonate today.
After the screening, join a 45-minute conversation with Jay Douglas. Expect vivid stories behind the music, the collaborators and places that shaped it, and the film’s wider themes—migration, memory, creativity, community care—plus candid notes on how the project came together and why this history still matters.
Come celebrate the sound, spirit, and people at the heart of Play It Loud!—and the living culture they continue to inspire.
