About the Works:

"until" is an intimate, work-in-progress viewing of excerpts from Alexis Fletcher's new solo work, exploring themes of memory, dreamscapes, and reflections on loss. The premiere is planned for February 2021.

"Initial response and reconfiguration" is a duet for one dancer and one musician choreographed and filmed by Peter Smida in collaboration with Vancouver-based composer Kimia Koochakzadeh-Yazdi. The piece explores breaking open set choreography and musical composition - using it as a frame for mutual response and influence.

"A sonnet (and overcoming its implications)" is a movement-based film by Peter Smida in response to Shakespeare’s sonnet #139, heavily influenced by 60s cinema exploring themes of independence and joy.

About the Artist in Residence Program:

Ballet BC’s Artist in Residence program helps to nurture former and existing Company members with professional development opportunities in the fields of choreography, artistic leadership, rehearsal directing and teaching. The presence and expertise of the Artists in Residence are valued at the Company as we create a collaborative environment for dialogue, exchange and feedback of creative ideas to better understand the future of dance and the role of the artist in society today.
