About
Join Dr. Susan Schwartz, literacy/arts advocate, educator, author/co-author of books for teachers, editor, self-publisher, coach, and recently, the author of a new children's book, “Another Monkey? A heartwarming story for ages 3 to 8 about love, gift-giving, and sharing.”
This cumulative pattern book (also available in bilingual editions in French-English and in Spanish-English) is based on true events about the author’s son when he was 4 years old and his beloved monkey puppet—which he still has! The book is UNIQUE because it is illustrated by the author's SIX grandchildren. Themes include love, gift-giving, generosity, gratitude, family, friendships, sharing, ownership, and collections. The story reinforces manners, colours, numbers one to six, and stores in the community. The monkeys in the story are "sooo different" and "just like us" which encourages discussions about diversity (being different and embracing difference), equity (being treated fairly), and inclusion (being accepted and valued).
After the read-aloud, children ages 3 to 8 (and their parents/ grandparents/ teachers) will be involved in interactive follow-up literacy/arts activities. The author shares her beliefs about the importance of the authorship process and encourages all children and adults to write, draw, and share with an audience. Get ready to inspire, empower, create, and celebrate!
