About

Step into the rich history and vibrant traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. On Saturdays and Sundays, September 19th-20th and 26th-27th, join us at the Chinese Bunkhouse from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm for an immersive cultural experience.

Also known as the Mooncake Festival or Moon Festival, this annual holiday celebrates family, the harvest, and the beauty of the full moon. Observed on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, the festival is celebrated across many parts of Asia and features customs such as family gatherings, moon gazing, the sharing of mooncakes, and the lighting of lanterns.

Visitors can drop in to try out two fun activities: create a paper red lantern and craft a mooncake out of playdough! This is a perfect way to connect with the essence of the Mid-Autumn Festival and bring a piece of this vibrant cultural heritage home with you.

Organizer

Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site

Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site is an 8-acre heritage park set on the scenic banks of the Fraser River. The site is the original location of early canning, fishing and boatbuilding operations. Arranged along a wooden boardwalk, the unique landscape and collection of heritage buildings tell the stories of the diverse community of people who lived and worked in Steveston over the past 150 years.
