Join Krystle Dos Santos as she performs songs from her award-winning album, Bloom|Burn and other originals alongside guitarist, Gavin Youngash.

Tune in for a mesmerizing performance from award-winning soul, jazz, and R&B singer Krystle Dos Santos, accompanied by guitarist, Gavin Youngash. With an extraordinary voice that commands attention, Krystle will sing songs from her latest award-winning album Bloom|Burn as well as other original songs. Expect a bold and moving evening that will leave you with a strong urge to dance! This event will be available for all of Black History Month, February 2021.

PERFORMER BIO:

Krystle Dos Santos is a Western Canadian Music Award (WCMA) winning soul, jazz and R&B singer based out of Vancouver, Canada. Dos Santos grew up in Edmonton and her roots are Guyanese. She studied at the elite Canadian College of Performing Arts and has a BSc from the University of Alberta. She released her debut self-titled album in 2008, which won the 2009 Urban Recording of the Year at the WCMAs. Most recently, for her latest album BLOOM|BURN, Dos Santos received the WCMA R&B Artist of the Year for 2020.  She has performed across Canada including the Edmonton International Jazz Festival, Victoria Jazz Festival, Honey Jam Toronto, the Whistler International Film Festival and many more.

Krystle is also an actor whose recent credits include The Arts Club musical Dreamgirls and The Chelsea Hotel: The Songs of Leonard Cohen at The Firehall Arts Centre. She performed and created a show called ‘BLAK, exploring Canada’s Black History. In October 2020, Dos Santos debuted her cabaret style musical, Hey Viola! a musical exploration of Canadian Civil Rights hero, Viola Desmond, a co-creation with award winning producer/writer, Tracey Power.

Gavin Youngash is a multi-instrumentalist making his mark on the Vancouver music scene as a live performer, session musician, collaborator, and composer. His catalogue includes live performance and recording, both locally and internationally with notable Canadian acts, including Krystle Dos Santos, David Ward, Golden Future, award-winning Vancouver gospel-soul powerhouse Dawn Pemberton (WCMA’s Urban Recording of the Year 2015), and Boston-turned Vancouver-based RnB/Soul & Hip-Hop artist, Makadi (NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest Finalist 2019). In addition, Youngash also plays bass/keys and composes for Vancouver synth-pop group Star Captains, is a writer and guitarist with the West Coast post-rock noise outfit I Think I Saw You See Me and plays guitar/composes for his own ensemble, The Gavin Youngash Trio.

Surrey Civic Theatres

Surrey Civic Theatres are built on the unceded territories of the se’mya’me (Semiahmoo), q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), and q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) nations. We are honoured to work and learn on land they have stewarded since time immemorial.

Surrey Civic Theatres are owned and operated by the City of Surrey. Venues include the Main Stage and Studio Theatre inside the Surrey Arts Centre, and Centre Stage located inside Surrey City Hall.

Events held on these stages are both programmed by Surrey Civic Theatres’ staff, as well as presented by organizations and individuals who rent the theatres. Together, they provide the community with a spectrum of performing arts and entertainment options.

Surrey Civic Theatres also support the training and development of emerging artists through performing arts classes and workshops including day camps for children, youth, and adults.

The annual Surrey International Children’s Festival is produced as part of the Surrey Civic Theatres’ portfolio of programming.

Guided by the best practices of performing arts venues in Canada, Surrey Civic Theatres ensures its venues are safe for audiences, artists, and their specialized staff. All venues feature LED lighting to be more sustainable.

Together, the three venues support a busy schedule of high-quality performing arts from classical music and dance from a variety of cultures, through to socially engaged theatre productions for all ages, as well as numerous community events.
