Winnipeg has yet to experience an outdoor roller rink--it needs to. For one night, we're doing just that!

IllumiSkate the Night is a 70s disco-inspired roller rink, with the theme of Nuit Blanche 2022, Illuminate the Night.

Our roller rink will ignite your senses—physical movement, participant interaction, nostalgic sounds and disco lights—making it a perfect exhibit for Nuit Blanche 2022.

Globally and locally, roller skating has reemerged with a vengeance. This outdoor roller rink will encapsulate the retro and nostalgic vibe that pulses through the new roller skate culture. Roller skate culture is a vibe of art, dance, fashion, music, lights, and it celebrates the endemic.

IllumiSkate the Night is modeled after the Flippers Roller Boogie Palace in the infamous Rockefeller Centre in New York City.

Imagine roller skating at the Rockefeller Center in New York. The lights, music, and energy. Now picture it in Peg City, just blocks away from the Exchange District, the Forks and Portage & Main.

Roller skaters adorned in glow sticks, 8 lit up wheels, flashy clothing, disco balls, vibing to the jams of disco and now.

A video on the big screen, captivating the audience with local and international cityscapes, illuminating the night while celebrating the recent international resurgence of roller skating during the pandemic.

What if you can't skate? Then spectate! Be captivated at this unique experience all under the night sky.

*****Skate rentals will NOT be provided, but anyone is welcome to skate at their own risk.

*Please bring your own roller skates or inline rollerblades

*Helmet and protective gear is highly recommended

*Only inline and roller skates will be allowed

*NO walking, dancing, skateboarding or riding a scooter in the rink

*Glow wheels or glow anything is encouraged

*Disco threads (outfits) are funky fresh (stylish)

Skate Sisters of the Peg City Rollers

The Skate Sisters are Golda, Signy & Jill: a trio of roller skating enthusiasts!

Roller skating gives us a feeling of freedom in movement, it got all of us through the doom and gloom of an isolating year.

Our mission with our installation, IlluimiSkate the Night, is to share this discovery: "All the feels, on 8 wheels".

The Skate Sisters hope to encourage more people to roller skate and unite the existing Winnipeg skate communities with our pop-up nostalgic disco roller rink!

You can find the Skate Sisters with their skate crew, The Peg City Rollers! All in the name of roller skating, this recreational, inclusive, adult skate group is seen all over Winnipeg's cityscape. From exploring trails and bike paths, to conquering our city skate parks, to jamming (dancing on skates) on smooth concrete public spaces, the Peg City Rollers has figured out a way to lace up every week (at least twice)! In the winter, we're in the city's only roller rink called Wheelies, rented dance studios, and community centres.

We've also used the attention we get on our roller skates, to do good works in our community. When we roll, people see us! We love skating to support a worthy cause.

If you'd like to join us on your skates, find our meetup schedule on Peg City Rollers' Instagram page, @pegcityrollers.

We are Skate Sisters!

Creating memories with every stride.
