About

Join the Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild of Calgary as they host interactive demonstrations and discuss the 40 Mile Coat Project.

About the project: Using material sourced within a 40-mile radius of the Calgary Ring Road, the Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild of Calgary chose to celebrate their 40th anniversary through the creation of a rather unique wearable. The 40 Mile Coat Project involved both new and longer-standing guild members, all sharing their expertise and collaborating on the various steps in the coat’s production. The peer-to-peer mentoring between the teams of spinners, weavers, dyers and felters energized all involved, underscoring the guild mandate “to provide a forum for creative inspiration and shared knowledge in weaving, spinning and related fibre-arts”.
