About
George Al-Khoury served as a guide in United Nations' refugee camps throughout Lebanon during the early days of the Syrian crisis.
There, George discovered the musicians and singers using their music to keep a nation's soul alive while they waited for the chance to go home again.
Often while playing along with them on his darbuka, George recorded these one-of-a-kind 'jam sessions' for his upcoming documentary, "Songs of the Departed."
This event is a special screening of selected footage accompanied by narration from the musician, filmmaker, storyteller and restaurateur himself, George Al-Khoury.
Join us for this deeply-moving and life-affirming journey into the heart of a homeless nation to hear the stories of those musicians and singers
At the end of the presentation, samples of Syrian and Middle Eastern cuisine will be provided by Georgie's Shawarma.
This event is free as part of Culture Days 2019 in Sault Ste. Marie. We will be accepting a "pay-what-you-think-it-deserves" donations for the meal.
