About
The Doukhobor Discovery Centre will be hosting its second Borshch Cook-off on October 1, 2022. The Borshch Cook-off is a great way to experience and learn about Doukhobor culture and history in Canada and British Columbia. Participants competing in the cook-off are required to bring at least a gallon of borshch to share with our judges and guests. All borshch is to be prepared at home. The event is open through donation, and guests will receive a speciality mug featuring the DDC's Borshch Cook-off logo and as much borshch as you can eat! Our three judges will award one winner with our "Borshch Cook-off" trophy, which features a large green plastic cabbage. A separate award will also be provided for the "people's choice." This event is a celebration of British Columbia's cultural diversity. Foodways bring people together, they connect us to specific places, to our families, to our own heritage, and help promote cross-cultural understanding. Come celebrate and learn more about Doukhobor history and culture as well as Canada's cultural diversity!
Organizer
Doukhobor Discovery Centre
The Doukhobor Discovery Centre (DDC) works to preserve and exhibit the historic cultural heritage and home industries of the Doukhobor peoples in a traditional communal village setting. The DDC is a public museum home to over 1,600 artifacts that illuminate the history and culture of the Doukhobor people in both Russia and Canada. Ultimately, the DDC endeavours to share, preserve, and promote Doukhobor history and culture as well as Canada's multicultural heritage.
