About
The Art Gallery of Algoma invites you to “Welcome, Newcomers, to the Soo!”—a special event celebrating the rich cultural diversity of our community.
Enjoy a guided tour of our current exhibition, with a focus on one meaningful element of Canadian art. Then, we invite newcomers to share something from their own culture—whether it’s a piece of art, a creative activity, a poem, or a song.
This event is a space to connect, create, and celebrate the many cultures that make Sault Ste. Marie vibrant and unique.
Join us for this free, inclusive celebration of culture and community—part of the province-wide Ontario Culture Days festival!

The Art Gallery of Algoma proudly celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year, marking five decades of bringing art and culture to the community. Its permanent collection now features over 5,500 works, with a strong emphasis on Canadian art—from the iconic Group of Seven to Indigenous artists and contemporary voices who continue to shape Canada’s visual landscape. Beyond the exhibitions, the Gallery Shop showcases a curated selection of beautiful, locally made items, perfect for finding something unique and handcrafted. Visitors are also invited to relax at the cozy café, offering breathtaking views of the St. Mary’s River alongside coffee, tea, and soft drinks.
