Join us as we launch Global Music:Volume I and chat with sound engineer, Louis McDonald, about the creation of this album.
This is your chance to hear it first! Listen to new music specifically created for this celebration of immigrant musicians in NL. Get an inside look at how an album with many artists, different genres and various musical backgrounds comes together to make a cohesive project. Louis McDonald will share his approach to exploring new music and give you insight into the art of building multi-layered tracks.
The Global Music Series began as a collaboration between the Association for New Canadians (ANC), The Rooms and Music NL, supported by Canadian Heritage’s Community Support, Anti-Racism, and Multicultural Initiatives program. This series quickly grew from three outdoor concerts in St. John’s in 2021 to five in the following year. In 2023, Laughing Heart Music joined the team and the first Western Newfoundland Global Music concert was hosted at 62 Broadway in Corner Brook, NL. In 2024, Laughing Heart Music and ANC were excited to begin recording a Global Music Album which aims to capture the spirit of the Global Music concert series. Featuring immigrant artists who have found home in Newfoundland and Labrador, this album is a celebration of the many sounds that weave together to make up the diverse musical tapestry of the province. The intention of this project was to not only engage you, the listener, in a world of musical styles and genres, but also to give immigrant musicians an opportunity to network, build community and collaborate with musicians from across the province. It has been a joy-filled exploration of sound and friendship.

The building boasts a large event space, co-working space and offices, recording studio, and an artisan shop filled with locally made items, books, and music and merchandise. Our goal is to provide career guidance to artists who represent the best of what Atlantic Canada has to offer as well as create a supportive community where all people have access to grow and learn more about music.
