#L CITY is a public participation program of WDF 2019 | PROTO to build a Lego© City. Winnipeggers are invited to, unbox unused Lego© pieces, at home and at the office, have fun building structures with friends and family, bring them to WDF 2019 to connect with other structure to build L CITY.

We all have Lego© pieces: somewhere in the basement, in a box or two, at the office and at home. It’s time to unbox them! WDF 2019 | PROTO invites Winnipeggers to participate in building a city out of Lego©: L City, using unused Lego© pieces! Organize fun ‘build times’ together with friends, family and office colleagues, building urban structures (buildings, bridges, and so on), and bring them to the L CITY location during the festival. A team of 2019 WDF volunteers (the L CITY builders) will work with you to connect the structures to build a collective city: L CITY. Experience how a city can emerge out of collective participation! All the Lego© pieces at L CITY will be donated to charitable organizations after the festival.

Email: Email us your intentions contribute by September 15th (this will help us organize)

Make: Have fun building structures. We recommend max 16” cube per structure for transportation purposes. You can make as many structures as you want and or make them in a set that can connect. Let your imagination take over

Drop-off: Bring all the pieces to the L CITY build site! (Location will be announced here on a later date)

Build: Work together with WDF 2019 L CITY builders to connect the pieces to make a city.

Donate: After the festival, all the Lego© pieces will be boxed and donated to charitable organizations working for children and cure.

Winnipeg Design Festival

The Winnipeg Design Festival attempts to cultivate and share Winnipeg’s rich community of talented and creative individuals; and the products of their creative processes of design and making. WDF also strives to build and cultivate interdisciplinary relationship and partnerships with industry and like-minded organizations that promote the value of the good design of art, objects, architecture, and the greater built environment. WDF also wishes to be inclusive to a greater public audience, as a means of promotion, appreciation, and education of the design of the built environment. StorefrontMB is pleased to announce the theme of the 2019 Winnipeg Design Festival (2019 WDF), PROTO-, with Jae-Sung Chon as acting curator. Following the theme, 2019 WDF will focus on encouraging, embracing, celebrating, and respecting the idea of the ‘first-in-time’ or ‘first-of’ within Winnipeg’s dynamic design culture.
