About

The exhibition will showcase Vancouver artist Su Xiang’s medium-to-large scale monotonic acrylic paintings and installations. These artworks carry her kinship with the millennium-old weaving and silk embroidery craft of her hometown Suzhou, where traditional painting, calligraphic art, gardens, and water canals are also known for.

Su Xiang was surrounded and nourished by an excellent artistic atmosphere. From Suzhou's exquisite water towns and gardens to Vancouver's snow-capped mountains, rivers, and multiculturalism; from traditional wooden looms to industrial workshops, she has witnessed the changes of the times, the leap in productivity, and the infinite charm and possibility of fine art. Since completing her studies in the Department of Visual Arts at UBC, she has become a full-time professional visual artist who extols media and culture.

Her creations are not limited to paintings, but also installations, photography, and videos, and her themes revolve around textiles, whether it is the weaving of threads, the evolution of materials, the interlacing of art forms, or the interweaving of themes of works. She can always extract unique views from the social phenomena and environment around her and express them through her novel works.
