About

The Story Stroll Thru Scott Park is an active literacy program, whereby pages from stories are posted on trees throughout Scott Park and are read as visitors "stroll" through the Park. Pages from cultural stories will be shared throughout the duration of Culture Days, with stories being updated each Monday.

For the first week of Culture Days, the Story Stroll will also include a Treaty 4 Timeline, as well as a list of recommended reading for adults and children wanting to learn more about truth and reconciliation.

Porcupine Plain Public Library & Town of Porcupine Plain

The Porcupine Public Library works very closely with the Town of Porcupine Plain to provide active literacy programming for residents and visitors to our community. With the onset of COVID-19 and related restrictions, the Town & Library installed the "Story Stroll thru Scott Park", to allow for safe social connectivity and recreation when our community needed it the most. Since its initial installation, the Story Stroll has become very popular with young families, daycare providers, the playschool and even adults and seniors, and has expanded to include a bulletin board with reading excerpts and book recommendations for adults, as well as a QR code to an online survey for feedback on the Story Stroll program. It also forms an integral part of our Summer Play Program, where the Play Program Leader takes young children once per week to read the new stories posted and for child-directed play. It has also become a large part of our community's Culture Days celebrations, posting cultural and bilingual stories during the weeks of Culture Days each fall, as well as hosting outdoor storytimes with Metis Elders in partnership with Metis Nation Saskatchewan Eastern Region II.
