About
Our Voices - Orange Shirt Day POP UP!
We will have a table at the KDCC on the afternoon of Saturday, September 28, 2019 where participants of Culture Days will have the opportunity to learn about our Orange Shirt Day initiative. Our 'Every Child Matters' shirt was designed by local Inland Tlingit artist Megan Jensen. The proceeds generated from these T-shirt sales are used to host Our Voices youth summer gatherings. Participants of Culture Days can learn more about Our Voices and how they can be involved as mentors or sign up to attend the next youth gathering.
The inception of Our Voices began in December 2013, in an effort to initiate a dialogue on how young people could support youth and work together. The first Northern Emerging Leaders Gathering occurred in May 2014 in Whitehorse, Yukon, and in August 2014, the first Our Voices Summer Gathering was held in Teslin, Yukon, which involved youth participation from across the Yukon, Northern British Columbia, Northwest Territories and Alaska.
Our Voices is a collective of young Indigenous leaders who have the vision of holding up our youth and our culture.

Our Story
Following the success of the 'Our Voices: Emerging Leaders Gathering' held in Brooks last summer, the organizing committee gathered a variety of Indigenous youth leaders from Northern Regions who have dedicated their hearts and minds to establish the organizational structure and foundation of Our Voices. The Our Voices Strategic Planning Session was held January in Whitehorse, the Indigenous leaders generated recommendations from the Summer Gathering's youth that became the incentive for the organization.
