About

Georgian Bay Reads (GBR) showcases modern Canadian Literature as defenders from five neighboring libraries located in Southern Georgian Bay "battle it out" via whimsical lively debate in this event to celebrate Ontario Public Library Week.

Our 12th annual event will take place in cyberspace this year as we broadcast from the new branch of the Meaford Public Library at 7 pm on Saturday, October 23rd. Contenders include fellow libraries from Clearview, Collingwood, Springwater and Wasaga Beach. Books in contention and featured at this illustrious literary theatre are: HEART BERRIES by Terese Marie Mailhot, MISSING FROM THE VILLAGE by Justin Ling, BIRD ART LIFE by Kyo Maclear, THE PULL OF STARS by Emma Donaghue and A TOWN CALLED SOLICE by Mary Lawson. Gentlemen's rules apply.

Organizer

Georgian Bay Reads (5 member libraries)

In these times of continuing chaos and cancelled events, the organizers of the annual Georgian Bay Reads event took a moment to revisit the WHY and the reason for creating this showcase for Canadian literature. One of the original reasons was to create connections and to build bridges between the five library communities around Southern Georgian Bay. A secondary reason was and is to promote great stories found in the libraries located in the municipalities of Clearview, Collingwood, Meaford, Springwater and Wasaga Beach. The third component was and is to stage some illustrious literary theatre and to host a party in celebration of the annual Ontario Public Library Week that takes place every October. This 12th edition of GBR promises laughs and literature by livestream to the comfort of your own home this year! (Our apologies - BYOB this time - we will make it up to you at the intermission next year.)
