About
Celebrate Culture Days with Stunning Dance Films!
When the pandemic forced our theatres to close for the 2020/21 season and we were not able to perform live, The National Ballet of Canada created a virtual season of exquisite videos celebrating the beauty of dance. This included Spotlight Series, commissioned dance films shot by acclaimed directors, which featured world premieres by exciting, original dancemakers as well as reimaginings of beloved works. We invite you to join us for Culture Days and explore these stunning films:
• Take a closer look at one of ballet’s great legacy works, The Sleeping Beauty, with its dazzling variations.
• Reflect on the brilliance and range of George Balanchine, co-founder of New York City Ballet, with his beautiful Apollo and exhilarating Tarantella.
• Immerse yourself in stunning contemporary ballet with New Voices featuring world premieres by three vibrant and inventive choreographers Kevin Ormsby, Alysa Pires and Jera Woolf.
• Be swept way by Robert Binet’s meditative The Dreamers Ever Leave You, inspired by the Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris who infused Canada’s northern landscapes with a near spiritual power.
