"Dry Media VI: Taking Root, Artists at the WIN Herbarium" is the culmination of 12 artists’ investigation and interpretation of the University of Manitoba’s (WIN) Vascular Plant Herbarium collection in the spring of 2024. Working on site in ‘dry’ mediums including cameras and pencils, they examined a vast amount of source material and later, in their own studios, decoded and interpreted that information in a variety of mediums relevant to their individual practices. Source plant materials along with related scientific methodology including conventions such as labeling and collections organizing systems became inspiration that, decoded, allowed each artist to explore botany in new ways. The exhibition guides the viewer to see the burgeoning place of plants in our individual worldview.
