About

Chinese fan dance has thousands of years history and was developed as a way to share stories, communicate feelings and emotions. In this presentation, we will showcase two types of Chinese fan dances.

The first dance is a classical dance using a Tuan Shan (团扇), which is a round fan with a handle.  The background music "Pear Orchard", and the dance moves are adopted from the Beijing Opera arts.

The second dance is a famous Chinese folk dance: Yang Ge (胶州秧歌), accompanied with background music "Ode to Coral". In this dance, the twisting movement of the foot and the waist,  and the flowing of the colorful fans, are some of the highlights conveyed, to bring out the artistically unique charm.
